Stowe tennis is enjoying a very successful period, with strong results at all levels and a wellorganised coaching set up for the team players. Tennis is the main summer sport played by the girls of all ages. The boys can opt to play tennis full time in the 5th and 6th Forms and can play it as well as cricket in the 3rd and 4th Forms. A strong fixture list is enjoyed for all year groups. Stowe has 23 courts in total. The boys 1st VI play on tarmac at the Shop Courts. The sheltered nature of these courts in the middle of the School makes them one of the most pleasant places to play tennis on the circuit. The Athletics Track Courts offer space for another 8 courts and the third area available is the Bourbon Astro-turf, which currently houses 12 courts. The addition of a new Astro-turf in September 2007 will increase the courts available by a further 12. The pupils selected to train with the team squads have 5 hours of practice per week in the summer term. Stowe has a strong relationship with local professional coaches who help give technical input at all levels. Private coaching is available to those who want it on Sundays. The Stowe Tennis Academy was started in September 2006, which provides the opportunity for the stronger players at every level to play tennis throughout the year. They are supervised by a professional, who monitors their progress in LTA ratings and advises on tournament entry through the winter months. The opportunity to attend training camps in Mallorca is also available for such players. Master in charge: Mr Craig Sutton
