Introduction to the Campaign The Campaign for Stowe, led by its President Lord Sainsbury of Preston Candover KG (Grenville ‘45) will play an important role in the future of Stowe. Created to support both Stowe School and Stowe House, it is composed of two separate charitable trusts: Stowe School Foundation exists to ensure continuing investment in the School’s facilities and to provide vital funding for Scholarships, Bursaries, and other educational programmes benefiting the pupils of Stowe. The Foundation’s fund-raising priorities reflect the far-reaching vision for the School as set out by the Headmaster, Dr Anthony Wallersteiner, and will help to ensure the future success of the School in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Stowe House Preservation Trust was established in 1999 to protect and preserve the building for the benefit of the public and the nation. Stowe’s world renowned north front, central pavilion, south front portico and marble saloon have already been splendidly restored with financial support provided through the Trust. The Trust is now ready to tackle the challenge of the remaining restoration work, which includes extensive refurbishment of the impressive south front and state rooms. Through the remarkable generosity of individual donors and grant-making bodies (most particularly the Heritage Lottery Fund, who so kindly supported Phases 1 and 2 of the restoration), great progress has already been made with the development of Stowe. The Headmaster, Governors and Trustees are enormously grateful to all those who have so far helped. The scale of our vision, however, means that much remains to be achieved – for both House and School. The Campaign for Stowe now asks all those who care about Stowe to help realise its ambitions, and make a real difference for generations to come.
